SMA’s Elementary School

SMA's Elementary School Program - Stella Maris Academy of Malolos

The program allows the learners to continue their journey towards self-discovery. It gives the learners more opportunities to explore, expand, and extend what they already know and have.

As the learners continue their journey and discover their capabilities, capacities, and skills, they are provided opportunities to share their learnings with the world and the people in their midst.

They are given the intellectual challenges they need in an appropriate environment, taking into account their physical, emotional, and social as well as their cognitive development.

As the six years of schooling at the elementary level unfold, learners are provided with many life lessons that will make them truly enjoy the foundation years of their schooling and that will holistically prepare them for more challenging and more complex experiences in their Junior High School life.

SMA Elementary School has six levels:

Grade 1
Grade 2
Grade 3
Grade 4
Grade 5
Grade 6

What is the curriculum followed at SMA Elementary School?

At SMA, we follow the MATATAG and K-12 curriculum as prescribed by the Department of Education (DepEd). However, we enhance this with our own unique curriculum that integrates Multiple Intelligences (M.I.), ensuring that each child’s individual strengths and learning styles are recognized and nurtured. We design our lessons to engage various intelligences such as linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic, with M.I. seamlessly integrated into everyday learning.

Our curriculum is holistic, student-centered, and eclectic, combining the best elements from various child development philosophies. This approach ensures that students thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Additionally, we focus on developing 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication, to prepare our students for success in the modern world.

Key components of our curriculum include:

Project-based learning: Hands-on, real-world projects that foster problem-solving and innovation

Holistic development: Fostering intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth

Life skills lessons: Developing leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving

21st-century skills: Promoting critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and effective communication.

Is SMA Elementary School an English-immersive environment?

Yes, SMA Elementary School provides an English-immersive environment, with English as the primary language of instruction for most subjects. This immersion helps our students develop strong language skills, improve fluency, and become confident communicators in English.

While Filipino, Araling Panlipunan (AP), and Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) are taught in Filipino, the emphasis on English in other subjects prepares students for global communication, academic success, and future career opportunities. English is used not only in the classroom but also in daily interactions, activities, and school events, helping students gain practical language experience and fluency.

This immersive approach supports our goal of developing students’ ability to think critically, express themselves clearly, and engage confidently with the world in a globalized society.

What is the class size at SMA Elementary School?

To maintain personalized attention and meaningful interactions, class sizes are kept small, typically ranging from 20 to 25 students per class. This ensures that each child receives the support and guidance they need to succeed academically and personally.

How does SMA Elementary School implement real-world learning experiences?

At SMA Elementary School, we believe in providing students with Authentic Learning experiences that allow them to connect classroom lessons with the real world. Through our hands-on approach, students are encouraged to apply what they’ve learned in meaningful contexts.

For instance, students visit various communities to apply their values, gaining a deeper understanding of social responsibility. They explore museums to enhance their knowledge of history and visit government offices to engage with civic duties and governance in action. These real-life experiences bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application, helping students grasp the relevance of their learning.

Our student-centered approach ensures that each child’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs are met, while preparing them with the essential skills to succeed in Junior High School and beyond.

How does SMA Elementary School support students’ mental health and well-being?

At SMA Elementary School, we prioritize students’ mental health by creating a supportive environment for emotional and social growth. Our initiatives include:

Well-being endeavors: Activities and programs designed to support emotional health and resilience.

Mindfulness practices: Incorporating moments like Three Minutes of Silence to help students focus, relax, and manage stress.

Life skills lessons: Teaching self-regulation, empathy, and effective communication.

Mental health workshops: Offering workshops that promote awareness, coping strategies, and emotional well-being.

Positive school culture: Fostering an inclusive environment where students feel safe to express their emotions and seek support when needed.

By focusing on well-being, we help students develop the emotional strength they need to succeed both academically and personally.
